This is the phrase that Gwenhwyfar Buckley uses to describe her vision for the music and art-related events she produces. Her company, Canopy Productions, will be hosting its first full-fledged community event on Oct. 14 called Folk in the Fall. This all-ages event will be hosted at the Teegarden House Event Center in Yuba City featuring over 20 folk and original musical acts alongside a handful of artsy vendors.
“I want to create good memories for people,” said Buckley. “Folk in the Fall is meant to bring people together with art and music and be a place to make connections with people who have similar interests.”
Buckley founded Canopy Productions in 2021 with Joseph Meyer, a local musician and sound technician. The name was inspired in part by the canopy layer of the rainforest which provides vital protection and shade to the lower layers and its inhabitants.
“It’s something I wanted to start since I was 14 to be honest,” said Buckley. “The hope with Canopy Productions was that someday it could grow into something that offered that same feeling of bringing people together under shelter.”
Canopy Productions itself is a licensed business that focuses on providing professional quality live sound, lighting, staging, trussing, recording, backline, videography, and electronic press kits. The group began partnering with Teegarden shortly before the launch of this year’s Battle of the Bands event, which featured an acoustic backyard stage hosted by Canopy.
Folk in the Fall will take place between 11 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 with three separate stages, two outdoor and one indoor. Organizers are still accepting vendor applications as well as submissions for an onsite art show. This show will be on display inside the Teegarden House next to the indoor “Lost Treasure Stage.” Each submission will cost $5 to enter with the opportunity to sell as well.
