Al Kapone weighs in after officials say Beale Street Music Festival won’t happen next year

Memphis in May organizers announced Thursday that the 2024 edition of the Beale Street Music Festival will not be happening, citing numerous factors, including losses to the tune of almost $3.5 million for this past year’s festival.
The cancellation of one of the city’s biggest events won’t just affect music fans, it will affect local artists.
“Coming out on that huge stage for the first time, the roar of the people,” Rapper Al Kapone said, remembering his first time performing at the Beale Street Music Festival. “Everything you say, they are just into it. It was so amazing and addictive in some ways.”
Kapone said his first performance there was as an opener for Nellie in 2004. He remembered the thrill of performing on a big stage in front of a hyped crowd right in his hometown.
