Southern New England mourns music legend Jimmy Buffett

The death of music legend Jimmy Buffett has taken an emotional toll on his fans, including here in Southern New England. The 76-year-old died Friday night from a rare skin cancer at his Long Island Home.
Fans Jessica Medeiros and Kiefer McCaughley drove from Bristol to Portsmouth on Monday to spend some time at Sunset Cove. “We heard that Jimmy had come here, and it was a little like a memorial for us to come here where he played his last concert,” said Medeiros.
The musical legend performed at Sunset Cove on July 2 in Portsmouth. A large crowd gathered to see Buffett’s band member Mac McAnally play, but the crowd was shocked when Buffett himself walked on stage during the song “5 o’clock Somewhere,” where the line goes, “What would Jimmy Buffett do?”
Musician Andre Arsenault recorded the moment and posted it to his YouTube page. It was a special moment, even more so, because the audience did not expect Buffett’s final show to be on the small stage that fronts Blue Bill Cove.
NBC 10 returned to the Portsmouth cafe on Labor Day, two months after the performance, and two days after his death to speak with fans.
