Daredevil Stuntman Sparks Debate Over She-Hulk’s Portrayal Of Hero

The Daredevil stuntman from the Netflix series has expressed his disappointment with the portrayal of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The transition from the dark and gritty Daredevil on Netflix to the comedic tone of She-Hulk has sparked criticism from fans of the acclaimed series. Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil in She-Hulk faced backlash for the character’s more light-hearted depiction. The original Daredevil stuntman, Chris Brewster, recently voiced his criticism, comparing the portrayal to a cartoon. However, the show’s head writer, Jessica Gao, and Daredevil’s showrunner, Steven DeKnight, have defended the character’s role in She-Hulk.

Daredevil Stuntman Blasts She-Hulk Comeback
Chris Brewster, the Daredevil stunt double from the Netflix series, appeared on the Ikuzo Unscripted podcast to discuss his thoughts on the character’s portrayal in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Brewster criticized the depiction, calling it “bad” and equating it to a cartoon. Although he was not involved in She-Hulk, Brewster expressed his belief that Marvel Studios is harming Daredevil’s character by relying too heavily on animation and CGI effects, resulting in a lack of weight and realism in the action scenes.
Brewster emphasized the importance of practical, live-action movement and the visceral nature of the action in Netflix’s Daredevil. He stated that the energy and authenticity of live-action cannot be replicated with excessive CGI. According to Brewster, She-Hulk’s portrayal of Daredevil is a significant downgrade in terms of action and movement compared to the Netflix series.
Contrasting Opinions On Daredevil’s Role In She-Hulk
While Chris Brewster criticized Daredevil’s portrayal in She-Hulk, showrunner Steven DeKnight had a different perspective. DeKnight praised the reintroduction of Daredevil into the MCU in She-Hulk, thanking head writer Jessica Gao for taking excellent care of the character. DeKnight specifically appreciated the acrobatics and movement displayed by Daredevil in She-Hulk, which Brewster had raised concerns about. DeKnight even admitted that if he had the budget, he would have incorporated similar acrobatics into Netflix’s Daredevil.
Why Fans Shouldn’t Worry About Daredevil’s MCU Future
The MCU’s Daredevil has adopted a more comic book-inspired acrobatic movement and combat style compared to the Batman-esque fighting seen in the Netflix series. This shift aligns with the character’s growth and experience within the MCU. As there is a six-year gap between Daredevil Season 3 and She-Hulk, the character has evolved, necessitating adjustments to match the tone and style of each project.
